Nose Job recovery tips:

  1. Make sure you have enough time to recover after nose job surgery. Surgeons usually recommend to take a break from work for two weeks after surgery. You should consult with your doctor about when you can go back to work depending on your conditions.
  2. Keep your head elevated while sleeping at night. you can use two pillows under your head. Lying flat can increase blood flow to your nose which can cause swelling, bleeding and more pain.
  3. Get plenty of sleep after rhinoplasty.
  4. Avoid bending your head. Make sure that you can reach everything you need easily. If you need to pick up something from ground, bend your knees slowly but make sure that you keep your head up.
  5. Avoid doing any heavy exercise or activity. This includes running, lifting weights, stretching and etc. You should also avoid doing activities like cleaning your home, please take it easy for at least 3 weeks.
  6. Avoid swimming after nose job. By swimming we mean even going to pool. It exposes your nose to chlorinated water and can damage incisions.
  7. Use cold compressor in the first 3 days after your surgery to reduce pain and swelling, Make sure that you don’t apply compressors directly to your nose, you can use your cheeks instead.
  8. Make sure to stay hydrated after nose job surgery. Use a straw to drink water and drinks like apple juice to take back your strength.
  9. Do not drink alcohol for at least three weeks after nose job. Drinking alcohol can interfere with your medications, so please take a time off and do not drink. After good recovery, there is time to celebrate!
  10. Do not smoke about 2-3 weeks after surgery. Smoking after doing a nose job can be dangerous. Smoking can make your blood thicker and slow down your blood circulation it also increase risk of infection and cause wounds to heal slower.
  11. Stop taking Aspirin, Advil, Motrin, Naprosyn or similar medication two weeks before and after nose surgery. These medication known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) can increase risk of bleeding after surgery. For more information about these medications, see the following link.
  12. Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics or other medication for you to take after surgery. Please make sure that you follow your doctor’s instruction and take medicines you need.
  13. It sounds obvious but do not touch or hit your nose and avoid busy places like subway if there is a risk that somebody hit your nose by chance.
  14. Do not sneeze or blow your nose for 2-3 weeks after surgery. Sneezing or blowing can hurt nasal tissues and cause bleeding, bruises and pain. If you need to sneeze do it with your mouth open to reduce the pressure on your nose.
  15. Do not wear glasses 6-8 weeks after surgery. Wearing glasses can pressure your nose and leave bumps on your nose. Instead of wearing glasses, you can use lenses, post surgical glasses, and eyeglass comfort.
  16. It is true that piercing with a newly reshaped nose would look awesome! But please do not use any piercing on your nose for at least 3 month after surgery. Be patient, after full recovery, you can use piercing or anything you find attractive on your nose.
  17. Avoid wearing button-less T-shirts and sweaters after surgery. By pulling up T-shirt you may accidentally hit your nos.
  18. Do not eat foods that need lots of chewing and fruits like apple and pears and vegetables like carrots. Chewing gum or having a steak for your dinner is not a good idea as well.
  19. Do not go to dentistry for 2-3 month after surgery. Doing dentistry requires you to open your mouth wide open and it can damage your nose and incisions.
  20. Avoid heat like hot showers and hot drink and food. Heat can cause swelling and pain and makes healing process slower.
  21. This sounds hard especially if you are a jovial person. But try to avoid laughing hard for the first few weeks after nose job.
  22. After doing a nose job, your skin around nose will be more sensitive to ultraviolet radiation. To avoid sunburn, please avoid direct sun exposure and use sunscreen. Make sure that your sunscreen is not too strong, it is recommended to use sunscreen with 30-40 SPF
  23. Do not wear makeup for first few weeks after nose job. after a few weeks you can wear makeup but make sure to use high quality and smooth product. You can use moisturize cream but make sure that you don’t use strong products which include elements like alpha hydroxyl acid or Retinoid.
  24. Use a balanced diet after surgery. Try to include nuts, eggs, meat, fish and other protein rich foods. Also do not forget to eat vegetables and fruits.
  25. Make sure that you receive enough vitamin A and C. vitamin A can boost you immune system and is found in vegetables like spinach, kale and carrot. vitamin C will accelerate collagen regeneration and it also prevent infection. Vitamin C can be found in fruits like orange, grapefruit, and vegetables like broccoli.
  26. Do not engage in sexual activity for two weeks after surgery. High amount of adrenaline is released during sexual activity and it may cause swelling. Sexual activity can also cause pressure on you nose and facial area.
