The European Investment Bank supports Republic of Moldova with its projects in the healthcare sector

The Minister of Health, Labour and Social Protection, Viorica Dumbraveanu has had a meeting on 12 of February with Antonio Castillo, the head of European Investment Bank (EIB) Representation to Moldova, and Adam Bruun, EIB deputy advisor for the public sector. They have discussed the possibility to invest in healthcare infrastructure in Republic of Moldova.

On this occasion, the Minister has announced her intention to resume the talks regarding the subject of creating regional hospitals, which would improve the healthcare services the population receives. This layout would also ensure that the spending of public funds is well-managed.

´We would like to recommence our work with regards to the subject of regional hospitals, operating in the first stage in the North and the South of the country, where the difficulties of accessing specialized medical services are greater. We count on the support of the EIB for the implementation of the concept of regionalism, which will increase the access of the patients to better methods of diagnosis and improved healthcare services´, mentioned Viorica Dumbraveanu.

The representatives of the EIB expressed their support for the project and offered their technical expertise for its strategic planning stage. The feasibility studies that have been done until now are to be analyzed, and the National Health Strategy document must be updated to include the new concept. The planning also involves evaluating which costs can be covered from the state budget and which external donors can be involved in the project.

During the meeting, the parts also discussed about the possibility of obtaining funding related to the Education sector, which would complement the Government actions to stimulate the retention of medical specialists in the rural areas.
